Indian Tablet Market Dropped 28% In Q1 2017

The tablet consignments in the consumer section dropped 28% in the quarter one of this year compared with the same phase last year, which results in a spiky 18.6% year-on-year fall in entire tablet consignments in the country, a report said this week.

As per the report on Internet, 701,000 tablets were dispatched in India in the quarter one of this year, a trivial fall from 716,000 units of 2.2% in the last quarter. 

"Due to the rising digital propagation around various industries, commercial sector particularly big enterprise, education and government sectors are anticipated to raise their need of tablets. This will drive vendors to aim more forcefully in gaining share of market in the commercial sector to maintain the tablet market in India," said Associate Market Analyst, Celso Gomes, Client Devices.
Samsung grabs the first position in the tablet market with share of 21.3%. Samsung consignments elevated 4% quarter-on-quarter mainly due to strong development in commercial consignments. 

Samsung Galaxy J Max carries on to be the best selling smartphone for the firm driven mainly by consumer sector, with by Galaxy Tab A in the second position for the company.

Datawind grabbed the second spot with 20.7% share of market. Lenovo situated third with 20% share of market as consignments remained steady over last quarter, the report showed. 

iBall sustained its fourth spot with 4.7% quarter-on-quarter in the quarter one of this year. Apple sustained its fifth-place spot in spite of the consignments falling by 38.2% compared to last quarter.
iPad Air 2 stayed the best selling model for the company making more than 50% of its complete consignments. Limited consignments of iPad mini, which made up for almost 33% of complete consignments previous quarter, resulting in decrease of the iOS market in the country, the report added.

Well, one thing is clear that tablet market in India is facing a tough time and sooner or later we hope that this situation will change. For now, all the eyes lie on the upcoming tab from Apple that will be launching in June 2017. Let us see if the new iPad mini will be able to change the circumstances or not.
